The MOSSBELLY porn is an ongoing film research inspired by the MOSSBELLY group piece. It is happening in shifting collaborations with Polish filmmaker and dance artist Katarzyna Szugajew, Kate Nankervis, Ann Trépanier, Andreea David, Shelley Etkin and filmmaker and artist Kika Thorne.
What interests us about making a porn is not the level of the "universal" or an identifiable "aesthetic", visual "language", authorial handwriting or political ideology, but rather the exact opposite: something polyphonic and polymorphous by nature and yet entirely idiosyncratic, as I also encounter in my work with plants. We are interested in the uniqueness of the moment, the uniqueness of pleasure, which cannot be forced into a dominant system of comprehensibility.
In my work with plants, I repeatedly come into contact with different qualities of "knowledge". And in addition to something very fundamental and something that endures over time, there are also other qualities of knowledge. Especially in eroticism or lust, there is such a thing. A knowledge, just for this moment. And this knowledge cannot be reproduced or simulated. It is a knowledge that does not have to be sure that it will survive. Our desire is to concentrate on singularities, of the moment and of the other; in other words, precisely on the non-repeatable, on that which in the next moment could no longer exist in this world in this form.
We are interested in the celebration of truly singular, undisciplined bodies. At the center of the film is the materiality of the body, which opens itself up to the forces of the world and does not live them in mental spaces, but produces them in the first place by incarnating into its own flesh. This body is infused with the non-human, with plant consciousness and other species.
